All this has happened before

This is Ari playing with Vir and Atom Smasher. Her play table there is one of those expandable storage bins you can buy. Silly me, I thought I was going to use it as a clothes hamper. Ari knew better, of course. After the tenth time I found my clothes dumped on the floor, it officially became hers to play with.

Ari's been funny about doors opening lately. Every time the front door opens, she freaks out and tries to hide under things. I have no idea why, or what she thinks might be coming in.

This cracked me up today. It's K-9 keeping company with a triceratops, a spinosaurus, a fluffy bunny and a rubber ducky. My daughter kicks ass.

So, on Friday, I leave to go to Vienna, to give my poster at the International Morphology Meeting. And then, my exams start. I should be done around the end of February. Wish me luck, and don't expect to hear anything out of me for a month.

A blank page

This is my beautiful daughter, at 2 AM, sitting in the middle of a pile of rice crispies, compounded by a pile of cornstarch. She was eating the rice crispies, but I think she was just playing with the corn starch. I kind of hope she was just playing with it, because otherwise, it reveals some really disturbing things about my child's tastebuds. Ech, I got a face full of it when I was changing her jammies.

I haven't had the motivation to clean it up yet; I expect that'll come tomorrow. In my defense, I do get kind of zoned out when it's the wee hours and my girl still isn't to bed. I really ought to try to do something to get her on a more even schedule, but I've been too lazy- and her staying up so late all the time (which she has been, lately) isn't as suck as it might be, really.

Today, I got home, and Ari started asking for "sammy hugs"- which is to say, "family hugs", wherein she gets to be in the middle of a mama and papa sandwich. She also beeped my nose repeatedly and played "peetaboo" with me. It was freakin' adorable. Oh, and lately, when Thad goes to bed, she wants to snuggle under the covers. I can hardly get her away so he can sleep. Sometimes she asks for "sammy hugs" then, too.

The first outings for some of the cookbooks I got at the xmas are up at the Cookbook Party Club blog, if anyone cares. There is even pictures.

Revivification

Hey there.

We haven't frozen to death up here, and my daughter is still adorable. In case any of you were wondering. :)

Here's a picture from Christmas. This is Ari holding her extremely lifelike kitty that Great-Grandpa Francis sent her- easily one of her favorite presents this year. Boy, did that disturb the hell out of strangers in the airport. They kept thinking it was a real cat that this little girl was dragging around with her.

This is Thad's tattoo. Did I not mention he was getting one? Yup. He's been planning to get one in a serious way for well over a year now. We commissioned Nigel to stylize an aegishjalmur for us, and this is what he came up with. This is the tattoo right after the second session- you can see it's a bit red, and I've just put lotion on it. Mayhap I should have taken the picture before I did that...

Anyway, it's about four or five inches in diameter, in the upper middle of his back. Thad goes in for a touchup at the end of the month, after it's had a chance to heal up.

This is Ari, in the lovely warm outfit her godmother Theresa sent. Ari's pretty fun these days. The other day, we sat on the stoop (it was 70 degrees out!), and she kept pointing things out to me. Like, "dees a birds. birds say, caw caw. deesa birds. deesa two twucks. see? one twuck, two twuck. two twucks."

She can also say "zombiepocalypse", which amuses us no end. I know it's wrong to get my baby to say things just because I think it's funny, but I can't help myself.

She also says "exterminate!" (as previously noted), but that's all her. Oh, and when I put on a TARDIS shirt that Theresa sent me today, she kept pointing at the TARDIS and saying, "Dotta Hoo!" How cool is that?

P.S. Here's some stuff I've been doing:
